Surprise! Chocolate.
Karma was nervous.
It was his first date with Harrow, and he was already anxious about buying the right kind of chocolates for the bun he loved the most. He knew that Harrow wasn't allergic to anything, but was there anything that he didn't like? He wanted to surprise him, get him something special to show him that he was the most amazing thing in Hell.
Even if others didn't see it.
Pursing his lips together, Karma stepped forward to the counter to order, face practically pressed against the glass as he ogled the chocolates that were kept cold, seeing the different cakes and variety of tarts on display. He realized his mouth was watering, but there was no way he could stop how much he wanted to eat what was in front of him.
And share with Harrow, of course.
Wiping his mouth with his long sleeve, he finally caught the attention of one of the workers and smiled brightly as he pointed out the different things he wanted.
"The large tart in the middle, the one with strawberries. Oh! I'm not done yet, sorry. I'll... be ordering a lot." He had the foresight to come when no one else was around, just so he didn't take up anyone else's time with how much he was going to take home.
Was he going overboard with his selection? Yes. Did he care? Not at all. It was worth it.
"I'll also have four small devil cakes, three of the chocolate cherry pastries, two of the medium vanilla chocolate custards, and a pound of the heart box chocolates with a mix of the coconut haystacks, blueberry filled chocolates, strawberry creme chocolates, and a random assortment of whatever else you think is good. Thank you!" Karma made sure to be polite, knowing that this work was hard even though it didn't look like it. His friend Zach had stated that dealing with rude customers took a special kind of person, and Karma didn't know enough to believe otherwise.
While he waited for them to box up the entirety of the chocolates and cakes he had ordered, Karma took to browsing the rest of the store to see if there was anything he could add to the total amount he was spending today.
There were various trinkets and toys on the wall, mostly aimed towards kits, while the other half of the store had... socks?
Interesting.
Wandering over to the socks, Karma laughed at the strange array of socks they had. Some had puns on them while others had funny words, such as a fat bun with text over it that read 'LORG'. He didn't understand the humor, but it was quite silly nonetheless.
Spotting another pair of socks had him grinning frmo ear to ear, and he grabbed them off the shelf instantly, going right back to the counter to add to his pile of gifts.
"117 carats," said the bored worker who looked like they wanted to do anything else with their time, and Harrow happily paid as he carefully picked up the bags and waltzed out the door to Harrow's place.
It didn't take long to get there at all; Karma knew he had an open invitation, and moved inside with glee while shouting out a greeting that he had arrived. He set everything on the kitchen table and spread it out so that it looked pretty, seeing roses already set out on the table.
His inner self preened. So it was a date! He knew it.
Once he had everything set up, he sat in the chair and fiddled with his scarf, rubbing the soft fabric between his fingers to quell his nerves. Despite it being a date and him knowing that Harrow was going to enjoy what he'd gotten... he was still nervous. He wanted to be with Harrow for the rest of his unnatural life, and he'd fight anyone that got in his way.
A small part of him, however, argued that maybe... just maybe... Harrow didn't feel the same.
Just as he was starting to spiral into self doubts, Harrow appeared at the door, already surprisingly cleaned up, and with his usual remils hanging off his shoulders and enjoying their free ride.
"Hi lovelies," Karma said, reaching out with his hands. Just as expected, one of the remils jumped towards him with a tiny scream of glee, chuffing softly as it crawled up his arm to cuddle against his cheek.
"You didn't have to get all this," Harrow said softly, but with the way his body moved, Karma knew he appreciated it.
"You're worth it, Harrow." Karma said, smiling as he tilted his head, cuddling against the remil. He them shifted the socks forward so that Harrow could see them, and... was that a laugh? Did Harrow actually laugh?
"Remil Pack." He held the socks up and hugged them. "I love this. I'm indifferent to chocolate... but thank you. So, so much, Karma."
"Like I said... you're worth it." Karma could feel his cheeks grow hot, and he busied himself with rubbing one of his fingers over his companion's head. "Will you spend the rest of the night with me?"
Harrow's tone was rich and soft, full of admiration. "Of course I will, Karma. I would not want to spend it with anyone else. You, too, are worth it." He bent down and removed his mask just slightly, just enough so he could kiss Karma on the cheek.
Karma didn't think he could get any redder, but he certainly tried.
