Chocolates and Creme
If prompted, Sugar would deny spending hours upon hours making the perfect Matentines chocolates. Hours spent remaking them when they didn’t taste good enough or when they didn’t look up to his standard. He refused to even accept the fact he stressed over them, refused to even acknowledge that he worked himself to the bone because he wanted to impress his boyfriend.
Try as he might however, Sugar had to admit to himself that he wanted them to be flawless because he wanted Creme to love them. And while he highly doubted his boyfriend would have cared about how they looked since it was Sugar gifting them, but what kind of baker would he be if he couldn’t get chocolate right for the one bun in the burrows he cared about the most? They had to be perfect because his Creme was perfect.
And that’s how he found himself, standing outside of his boyfriend’s door after knocking, with a box of chocolates and a lavender rose he nicked from a bouquet Spice had shown him.
It was a tense few moments, before Creme opened the door. The bun looked annoyed, until he caught a sight of Sugar and brightened. “Sugar, what are you doing here? I thought you were coming over later.”
Sugar took a deep breath, before he held out both the box of chocolates and the single rose. “I was, but I couldn’t wait any longer. Now I didn’t know if we agreed to get each other gifts during Matentines, but I made some chocolates for you.”
Creme looked surprised, before he carefully took the box and opened the lid to peek inside. He gasped.
There, in carefully folded paper, were fourteen chocolates that were each carved to look like each of Sugar’s dessert themed imps. They were all decorated sprinkles and cream, even the bonezo with candycorn and the lunell with a cookie shaped moon.
Sugar sounded nervous, as he reached a hand up to rub the back of his neck. “I know how much you love my imps and I thought, maybe, that would be a good idea for the chocolates. There’s even milk chocolate, white chocolate and dark.”
Before he could finish rambling, Creme shifted the box to one arm and hugged Sugar tightly aorund his middle. “Are you kidding? I love it!” He shook his head, “I don’t even understand how you were able to make all of these.”
Sugar grinned, “With a very careful hand.” And a mountain of mistakes, but he wasn’t about to tell Creme that.
Creme laughed, leaning up on his tip-toes to kiss Sugar. “So are you just going to stand here, or do you want to come inside? I can’t eat these all alone.”
Sugar snorted, “Even with the two of us that’s fourteen chocolates to eat, Creme.” Still he gave his boyfriend another kiss. “But I don’t mind trying to see how many we can finish together.”
Creme’s tail wagged behind him, although pulling on Sugar’s hand to drag him inside. “I still can’t believe you made this for me, I thought you were busy with orders this month? Where did you even find the time?”
Sugar shook his head, letting Creme lead him to his kitchen’s counter. “What and not make you anything? I might not be the best boyfriend, but I’m not just going forget to get you a gift for Matentines.”
Creme set the box of chocolates down in an instant. “Not the best boyfriend? Said how? I’m the one who makes that decision.”
“What I can’t say that? It’s myself.”
“Yeah but that’s also shit talking my man.” Creme wasn’t leaving any room for arguments, there was no way he was going to let Sugar talk about himself that way. “And I think you’re perfect.”
There was a moment of silence, before Creme looked up and realized Sugar was blushing. “Are you blush-”
Sugar made a low noise of protest. “I am not!”
“You so are!”
Sugar groaned, quickly pulling Creme into his arms to hide his blush. “Quit it, aren’t we supposed to be enjoying your chocolates?”
Creme grinned, “I can do both.”
“Creme.” Sugar’s voice was a low warning, he was getting embarrassed.
Creme snickered, patting Sugar on the chest. “Fine, let’s eat some chocolate. I’ll even let you feed me it.”
“Oh so making it wasn’t enough, now I have to feed it to you?”
“Exactly.”
“What you little-”
There was a shriek of laughter when Sugar squeezed Creme tighter, the pair breaking out into loud cackles as Creme tried to get free.
If someone had told Sugar, years ago, that he would spend a Matentines with a bun he was in love with, he would have laughed and kicked them out of his cafe. Now, surrounded by the sounds of laughter and the smell of chocolates, Sugar realized he has never been happier than in this moment.
He was just a bun in love.
