Flowers for Teddy

With a few sprigs of lilies of the valley, a hand full of lavendar roses and a few clusters of pink hydrangeas, Spice lovingly adjusted her bouquet.

She was feeling a touch shy about her choice of flowers, hoping that she wasn’t being too obvious. Lilies of the valley for happiness, lavender roses for love at first sight and pink hydrangeas for her sincerely. It was the kind of arrangement she worried over making for weeks and even agonizing over given all flowers weren’t something she knew a lot about. Spice even had to ask a florist to painstakingly explain to her what every flower meant and then had to learn that each color had a different meaning.

But now, standing in front of the hospital and waiting for Teddy to come see her, she started her worries all over. What if he didn’t like it? What if he thought she was silly for bringing him flowers?

But before she could enjoy her panic, she heard a very familiar voice behind her. “Spice?”

She nearly tripped over herself to turn around, her expression bright. “Teddy bear! There you are!” Even with her nerves, she couldn’t help being excited. Her day always felt so light when she saw him.

Ted smiled, the corners of his eyes crinkling as he looked down at her. It had been a long work day and just seeing her face was enough to calm him down. “Here I am.” He paused, looking down at her hands, “What’s that you have?”

Spice straightened, having almost forgotten her bouquet until she was holding it out for Ted to take. “Well sweetheart, I, well I got you some flowers”

Ted carefully took the bouquet out of her hands.

She continued speaking in a rush, her sudden shyness getting to her. “Maybe you could use them to brighten up your place or maybe your office? Oh or maybe you don’t like flowers? Goodness I should have asked shouldn’t-”

Ted gently cut her off by moving the bouquet to one hand and using the other to grab one of hers. “You got this for me?”

Spice bit her bottom lip, before shyly nodding, “I picked all the flowers specially for you.”

Ted’s expression melted, “Really? Just for me?”

Spice felt her heart beating faster as she smiled, nodding quickly, “Of course Teddy, I really wanted to give you flowers. I heard once that some buns have never received flowers before and it broke my heart. Someone as wonderful as you should have flowers.”

Ted pulled her forward in his embrace, making sure to watch the bouquet so his flowers wouldn’t be crushed. “You’re the wonderful one Spice, I can’t believe you did this because you wanted to make sure I got flowers.”

Spice made a soft happy sound, instantly wrapping her arms around Ted. “Well that wasn’t the only reason, I could tell you what all the flowers I chose mean.”

“You even picked them based on their languages?”

“Of course I did, I wanted this to be special for you.” She couldn’t just give him any old bouquet, it had to be made for him and for all the things she felt about him.

Ted laughed softly, “Getting any flowers from you is special, because it’s you Spice.”

She blushed, laughing shyly as she hid her face against his chest. “You’re such a sweet talker.”

“I’m happy you think so.” He would have made another comment about the way she always seemed to know what to do after he saw her blush, but Spice was being too sweet to interrupt. She was the kind of bun to treasure when you had the chance.

Spice tugged gently on his arm. “You’re off work right? Maybe we can go over to your place or mine, I can explain the bouquet and then we can watch a movie.” Her tail was wagging quickly behind her.

“Yes I’m free.” Ted grinned, quick to agree, “I’d love to hear why you picked each one.” He grabbed her hand, letting go of their embrace so he could walk with her.

Spice instantly snugged against his side as they walked. She should have known a bun as sweet as Teddy would love her gift, she was almost giddy to explain her flower choices.
