Together
“I’m not sure I’m doing this correctly.” Dan felt strange. Aurora was the one who had suggested that they try out to be Dan’s(The Dango Dan, not Dan himself–God, that was always weird.) apprentice. Really, he suspected that she did it just to spend time with him, which would be fine ordinarily, but did it have to be something he was just so awful at? The class wasn’t exactly his kind of environment either, plenty of other buns seemed to be enjoying themselves, but he only felt like a fish out of water.
According to Aurora, it was true for both of them that they liked to work with their hands, but wasn’t this taking it too far? Cooking certainly wasn’t on his repertoire of expertise.
Dan passed the table, and frowned at their work. He didn’t really seem satisfied with anyone. It was probably because most Succubuns didn’t take the instruction as seriously as he did. Or perhaps his standards were too high. Either way, he was better at deconstructing computers and writing code than he was making dango.
Aurora passed her partner a sympathetic look.
“I think it looks lovely, dear.” Aurora replied, her voice sounded something like a warm spring wind.
She was always so positive. “T-Thanks, Aurora.” Dan flushed in reply.
Beside him, Aurora had her wooden bracelets off, freeing her wrists from any mess, and her mane of hair was in an updo, adorned with various flowers and wooden wraps. Dan caught himself staring at her as she worked. It was beautiful, just as she always was. Below her though… a weird mess of mushy rice. It was a strange color, and he wasn’t quite sure how she’d gotten it to look like that.
“Uh, yours looks great too, love.” Dan said.
Aurora looked down, making a pout. Even if it wasn’t her cheery smile, she still oozed confidence and a nonchalant attitude. “It’s just not turning out how I imagined. I wonder what I'm doing incorrectly.”
For all of Aurora’s perfection, she still took time to learn just the same as he did. It was almost comforting. Dan remembered why he’d agreed to this in the first place looking at her. They could really do anything as long as they were doing it together.
“Well,” He began, nudging her with an elbow. “We’ll figure it out together. It’s just the same as doing anything.”
Aurora’s face softened. “You’re absolutely right, love.”
