[Gift] Nesting Instincts

The sultry season of Matentines had come to an end. Chocolate, roses, companionship providing services had all returned to their normal rates of sales and prices. The only businesses that were currently booming in the aftermath were the food industry while the alcohol business seemed to be suffering at the moment. It was baby season so it wasn’t entirely shocking for Cassidy that his bar’s sales were down.

The dip in sales and customers wasn’t too bad though. Cassidy always made enough to scrape by and besides the lack of customers flocking to the Smoke Out meant Cass had an excuse to close his bar early some nights. Normally the idea of closing early would have been enough to make Cassidy throw out the bun who dared to suggest it, but he had more important matters than just making money. For the first time in a long while, Cassidy had actually had someone to be with during Matentines and that bun had ended up becoming pregnant during the romantic season. With a bun who had a bun in their oven, made with love by Cass, the larger man wanted to spend as much time as he could with his partner.

So, it wasn’t shocking that after another night of nearly being empty besides the odd occasion bun, Cassidy decided to close the bar early once more. The large bun was just excited to head back to his home to check on his own pregnant partner. It had been a long time since Cass had had even just sex with a bun, even longer since he had had a child with someone and even LONGER since he had had what felt like a truly loving relationship with another bun. The hefty bun had nearly given up on the concept of ever finding and settling down with someone. He was just about ready to toss in the towel on the very concept of love but just like a cheap penny paperback romance book Tei had wandered into Cassidy’s life. Now, here he was, willing to close his bar early to get home and help take care of his pregnant partner. 

Cassidy had no idea what he would be walking into as he entered his shared bedroom. The bed sheets that were once on the bed had all been removed, leaving the mattress bare, the duvet, sheets, and comforter were all in the middle of the king sized bed. The pillows were also out of place, they weren’t near the headboard or even on the floor, they were all in this nest of sheets and blankets. The pillows were acting like support beams to the fort that was just in the middle of Cassidy and Tei’s bed. 

The large bun couldn’t help but stare at the fortress that occupied his bed. “Tei? Are you in there?” Cassidy tried to call out to his partner as he moved to carefully sit on the mattress. From inside the fort, Cassidy could hear something similar to a soft scratching noise coming out of the fortress. The older bun was just about ready to try and stick his head in when he heard Tei’s muffled chittering.

“Yeah, I’m in here!” Tei’s voice was a bit muffled as they moved to poke their head out of the fort. “Sorry, I was just-” The bun struggled to even fully recognize what they were doing. Cassidy could only smile a little as he moved to crawl over to the large fort. “Building this all day.” Tei blushed hard as they turned their head away from Cassidy. The fluffy bun was clearly embarrassed by their strange desire. Cass on the other hand had a soft look in his eyes as he placed a soft paw on Tei’s face. “You made a nest, I heard that pregnant buns do that but I’d never seen one before.” The grey bun offered a sweet kiss to the smaller face of his partner before looking up at the fortress.

“Would it be okay if I went in with you?” Cassidy looked back down at Tei. The furry bun’s eyes were covered but based on the blush and smile Cassidy could see it was clear the question made Tei happy. “Of course!” The blue and white bun grabbed onto Cassidy’s paw as he dragged him into the nest that he was compelled to make. Cassidy had to be careful as he hunched down a little and walked in, the space inside the fort was tight. The pillows Tei had used to build up the walls and ceilings had other materials on them that were just the covers or sheets from the bed. It took Cassidy a moment to recognize the rest of the materials used to make the interior of Tei’s nest.

“Did you use some of my clothes?” Cassidy looked over at what was clearly one of his button up shirts that was balled up to help close a corner of the nest. Tei blushed even harder as he moved to layback on a pillow near the centre of the fort. “Maybe…” The pregnant bun grabbed at one of the blankets they used to wrap around themselves. Cassidy carefully shuffled over to Tei. “I wanted this nest to smell like you since you were gone.” The small whine that left Tei’s mouth broke Cass’s heart as he moved to cuddle the other. His now burritoed partner moved to hide their face in Cassidy’s furry chest. “I know it’s too risky being this far along to go with you to work, so I just want to be surrounded with your scent.”

Cassidy moved to gently just nuzzle into Tei’s soft fur as he listened. “Aw, love.” The larger bun gently rubbed Tei’s back. “I know it’s hard not having you around the bar with me. Everytime I look over at the shelf behind the bar I expect to see you napping or whining for me to go over and give you little kisses.” Cass made it a point to shower Tei in kisses, the white and blue bun could only squeal in happiness as they tried to move around. Unable to retaliate due to the blanket prison Tei was wrapped in. “Soon though you’ll be able to come back to the bar and bug me like usual and they’ll even be a mini you running around.”

Tei looked up at Cassidy, their crystal blue eyes slightly visible from behind their shaggy bangs. “You say that like it’s a bad thing when you have your mini you behind there already. And he makes for a far bigger pain in the ass.” Tei couldn’t help but tease Cassidy over Avenir as they leaned up to press a soft kiss to Cassidy’s mouth. “But, I’m excited. They’ll be a little bit of me and you and whoever they become I’m sure they’ll be just as amazing as you.” The small bun moved to gently nuzzle their face against Cassidy’s chest. Cassidy couldn’t help the tears of happiness welling up in his eyes as he held the pregnant bun close. Moving to just hide his tears as he sniffled softly into Tei’s soft fur.

“I’m sure they’ll be as perfect as you, my love.”
