[Gift] Lumi's Adventure For An Imp
Puttering around her home, Lumi continued her daily routine. The soft bluenette meandered her way from room to room doing chore after chore. The process was something she did day in and day out. Everyday she would wake and begin the arduous task of cleaning up the remnants of the previous nights’ endeavors. Today was no different than any other day, or at least it was never meant to be.
However when the lanky bun once again hit her knee against a hard surface, Lumi let out a frustrated cry. Stomping her way over to the medicine cabinet in the bathroom, cursing the damned coffee table that injured her, she retrieved yet another colourful band-aid to add to the growing collection depicted on her legs. Tired of constantly repeating the days, she decided that she had had enough. Something needed to change. Plopping down on her couch, Lumi contemplated what she could do to mix things up a bit. She could invite some buns over for a romp in the sheets, but she usually did that anyway so it wouldn't really change how she spent her day.
Lumi thought and thought, but nothing came to her. So she did what any sane bun would do; she decided to have someone else tell her what she should do. Smiling to herself, she even knew just the bun to ask. With her eureka moment, Lumi swiftly lept to her feet in an attempt to run to her room to get ready. Unfortunately for her, that pesky coffee table was still there and once again, had it out for her knees. Clutching her shin, Lumi swore that one day she would burn that coffee table.
Though it took her 4 hours, and she was now wheezing a little due to forgetting how far away Belial lived, Lumi finally arrived at his doorstep donning her usual attire of a pink sweater, a black pleated skirt, and a pair of pink sneakers. She didn't even bother knocking, assuming the other sloth bun would be fast asleep somewhere in his home which, all things considered, was actually an accurate assumption. She found Belial passed out on his living room floor, curled up near a fireplace with his red chirop and some books. Lumi gently nudged the books a safe distance away, and proceeded to grab an ice cold glass of water from the kitchen. Taking a sip of the water, she let out an audible sigh of relief as she made her way back to the living room. With no hesitation, Lumi dumped the rest of the glass on Belial’s sleeping form.
“Aaaaaahhh! What the fuck?!” Belial screamed as he jumped awake. The pale, white-haired bun glanced around in a panic until his eyes met Lumi’s. Her eyes sparkled with mischief and he simply glared as she tried to withhold her laughter. “Seriously Lumi? Again with this? Can't you wake me without soaking my home?”
“Hey, at least I moved the books this time. So that's something, right?” Lumi gestured to the books that had been spared the aquatic treatment. Finally taking notice of the books’ titles, Lumi got curious. “Advanced Imp Care? Haven't you figured out how to care for your chirop yet?”
Rolling his eyes, Belial picked the books up. “In case you haven't noticed,” he gestured behind Lumi to the freign peeking out from his bedroom. “Ralph isn't the only imp here anymore. And the basics don't cover anything about freigns. So I borrowed the advanced book from Hutch.”
Tilting her head, Lumi stared at the freign until it ducked back into hiding. “Aww it’s so cute! Do you think I could get one?” Lumi’s question sent Belial into hysterics. “Hey! Why are you laughing?! I could totally manage it!”
Wiping a tear from the eye his bangs didn't cover, Belial shook his head. “If you want an imp then you have to start with the basics. You can't just jump into it.” Rifling through the chaos of stacks of books, which Belial assured people the stacks were organized somehow, he clearly sought out a specific book. “Aha! Here it is.” Grabbing a dusty-looking book, he blew on the cover to reveal the title; Imp Care for Dummies. “You want an imp? Read this and then go see Hutch.”
Taking the book reluctantly, Lumi eyed it with skepticism. “Can't you just tell me how to do it? OK, fine. I’ll read it, but I'm reading it here.” Lumi dropped herself into the only armchair Belial owned that was not full of books. Sulking as Belial shook his head and walked into his room, probably to continue his nap, she cracked open the old book regardless and began to read.
The book seemed fairly simple. It covered what to feed imps, what not to feed imps, how much exercise various imps needed, and more. It even included pictures in the parts that mentioned care specific for certain imps. Though as Belial had stated, some imps like freigns were not included. It appeared that only the most common imps were included, and even then the book focused on chirops, phloofs, and impups. Feeling watched, Lumi glanced over her shoulder and noticed Belial's chirop glaring at her. Lumi decided then and there that chirops were definitely not for her.
She continued on with her reading, ignoring the angry chirop watching her with its intense gaze. As she read, she began focusing more and more on specific imps. By the end of the book, she was dead set on taking home a phloof. She adored their fluffy, round appearance. Plus the book said they were the easiest imp of all the imps, and Lumi liked it when things, and others, were easy.
Standing up slowly, wincing as her numb legs adjusted to being used again after sitting for hours, Lumi tucked the book under her arm. Nodding her goodbyes to the watchful chirop, off she went to the Imporium to talk to Hutch. It appeared the Hutch was about to close up shop when Lumi arrived and slammed the door open.
“Hey Hutch! We need to talk!” Lumi demanded loudly. “I read this whole book,” she held up the Imp Care for Dummies book above her head, “and I think I'm ready to take an imp home. Think you can hook me up with a phloof before you close up tonight?” Lumi smiled brightly as she asked, full of hope.
Startled by the late intrusion, but amused by Lumi's candor, Hutch smiled and shook his head in wonder. “Sure, Lumi. Come with me and let's see if any phloofs take a liking to you.”
Lumi's face lit up like she just won the jackpot playing roulette. Jumping a little for joy, she raced to follow Hutch. Though in her excited state, hyped up to get her first imp, she neglected to account for the size of Hutch's counter as she attempted to race around it. Hutch turned back to look behind him after hearing a loud thud, only to see Lumi on the ground clutching one of her knees yet again. Hiding an amused smile, he helped Lumi to her feet and they continued to the back of the Imporium to pick out the perfect phloof for Lumi.
