Rest and Restraints 2.0
"Okay, okay, wait- listen to this one."
Cupid had, to their absolute delight, managed to corner Shibani after work to thoroughly complain about their customers. They ren't sure if the other bun even liked the near-daily gossip and drama (sometimes Cupid was sure he was avoiding them), but if he didn't, he hadn't said anything about it yet. It was probably for the best- if Cupid didn't have anyone to talk to about their day, they think they'd implode, and half of the time Shibani didn't even have to pretend to stay awake as long as Cupid got to tell their stories to someone else, listening or not.
"So someone comes in, right? And it's the middle of the day, and- don't get me wrong, do what you have to do, but she's insistent that we have drinks. Like, alcholic ones, you know? And our menu is right there, behind me, so I don't know what she's looking at, but she orders something from The Rabbit Hole. It was a....uh...."
Cupid's pause is both to take a breath and to try remembering what the drink could have been. They're sure it's not anything especially popular or their tastes, so they're not sure what it is. The influx of customers haven't helped, either, and as they realize there's no chance they're going to remember it, they let out a defeated exhale before turning to Shibani, next to them, who is pressed up against some pillows and looking like he may sleep at any moment.
"She said it was one of those weird blue ones. Like. Bright blue, I think? Maybe with purple or...maybe it was green, I don't remember. Do you know what it could have been?"
There's a pause of Shibani trying to think before he half-hums a denial. Defeat sinks into Cupid's shoulders- this is going to kill them until they figure it out, they just know it- but it only lasts a split second before they're launching into their story again, leaning into the pillows and half-fighting the desire to just curl up then and there. It's their desire to finish their story that keeps them from doing it- and, by extension, what keeps them awake.
"I can figure out the drink later, I guess. Anyways- she's like...super fucking insistent that we have this drink, and of course I'm the one having to deal with her, because I was the one who made it to the front counter first. And I try to keep telling her that we don't have this, right? And she's telling me that she knows we do, because she saw it, but she won't tell me where she saw it. So eventually I'm just like."
They stop again to sigh, both to stay loyal to their recounting of the story and to try to combat some of the remaining annoyance they feel at the mess of a day they had. "Eventually, I just tell her, right? I'm like...We don't have those drinks. All of them are alcohol-free. We don't make anything like that, and the menu is literally right there. Not in those words, because that'd get me fired, but you know. And you want to know what she does, Shibani?"
There's a beat. Shibani is silent, except for his snoring, and Cupid realizes then that somewhere beteen their asking about the drink and coming to the end of the story that he had fallen asleep. Suddenly, pressed against the blankets themself and feeling warm, the temptation to nap is much stronger than it had been before. They're comforable, and the silence that falls with their pause is nice.
"She just kind of. Gets mad. Says she's going to the place down the street- which I guess she means The Rabbit Hole? I don't know. I didn't really ask, because I just wanted her gone by then." At this point, they lower their voice partially in an attempt not to wake Shibani up (not that anything could, they're sure) and partially due to their own exhaustion. Their words, having been rushed out earlier in an attempt to get to the most outrageous part of the story as fast as possible, have slowed as well.
"So she says she's going to the place down the street, and I'm like....Okay? And she says they probably have better drinks, anyways, and I'm thinking...Yeah, if it's the place I think it is, they probably do for what you're looking for. And then she's just. Gone? I don't know, it was just confusing. Customers are confusing."
Story officially finished- mostly for Cupid's sake rather than anyone else's, they let themself sink into the pillows further, the beginning of sleep already threatening to pull at their eyes. They don't fight it, this time, and instead only move a little to pull Shibani into a tired cuddle, resting their head near the other bun's as they fall asleep.
