Chocolate Treats
Matentines was a strange period of time for Lydia, as she had been single consistently throughout her whole life. She had never been able to land a lasting relationship with another succubun, though she did long to do so, deep down in her heart. She very much longed for finding the one, a lady bun that she could settle down with some day who would understand her strange mannerisms and have patience for her anxious tendencies. That was the ultimate dream—but it just wasn’t achievable for her at the current time, given her circumstances.
Not to get off on a tangent, but she did feel a little lonely, even after the blind dates that she had gone on with a few very sweet—if not romantically incompatible—other succubuns. She felt awkward about the holiday celebrations because of that, but if there was one thing she did universally love about the holiday, it was the allure of candy. Not just that, but given her vice of greed, she got to revel in the joys of discounted candy each year. Every carat saved was worth it to her.
Walking through the streets of Burrowgatory, she tried to ignore the sights of other couples enjoying their time together, finding that it would only make her feel a little too envious of their affection. All around her, there were couples enjoying their time together—some in more wholesome ways than others, admittedly. She put her utmost effort into focusing on what mattered the most—getting that sweet, sweet discounted chocolate that went on sale towards the end of Matentines day. As she made her way down one of the alleyways, she passed an old shop. She decided to enter, her hooves stepping through the rickety door of the shop. Lydia was particularly fond of the selection, since they had a wide variety of alluring sweets—almost everything she could think of. It was all rather enticing, and being the well-to-do businesswoman that she was, it was hard not to splurge a little on the delicacies that lie before her.
It would be so wonderful to buy something nice and fancy for herself to enjoy, Lydia thought, rubbing her hands together excitedly. Her tail flicked through the air in excitement, picking out a particularly delicious-looking box of gourmet delicate chocolates. It was filled with various ascorted chocolates, all with beautiful aromas—not too overwhelming, but rather heavenly in their own right, if such a word could be used in a place seated so closely to hell. If not heavenly, then dare say, delightfully devilish. Lydia chuckled to herself almost evilly at the thought of indulging in some treats—the shopkeeper noticed this and stared, and Lydia awkwardly cleared her throat.
“Um, I’d like these,” she said rather straightforwardly, her cheeks turning pink. The shopkeeper merely stared, unsure what to make of the shy doll before him.
“Uh, I- I mean, I'd like to buy them,” she sputtered.
“Very well,” he said, taking the box from Lydia. “That'll be twenty carats."
Lydia raised her eyebrows. Not exactly a bargain. "Twenty? Really?" She couldn’t help but make a face at that.
"They're half-off," the shopkeeper grumbled, clearly not impressed by Lydia’s reaction.
Lydia nodded, not excited to spend that much on candy, but willing to do so anyhow. It was worth it for something as nice as these. She opened up her wallet, taking out the carats and handing them over to the shopkeeper. He handed the chocolates to her, and she smiled awkwardly. “Thank you.”
“Come back soon.”
Lydia nodded in acknowledgment, taking her chocolate along with her. She wasn’t expecting it to cost as much as it did, but she wasn’t about to complain now that she’d already made her purchase.
She found a nice place to enjoy her candy, a park in Burrowgatory that had a small pond, illuminated by lovely bioluminescent plants and, conveniently, devoid of lovers and onlookers. Lydia was so excited to indulge in a little treat—or two, or perhaps even three. Unwrapping one of the chocolates, the aroma immediately hit her. It smelled amazing.
"This looks… delicious. Wow," Lydia murmured to herself as she began to tear into the wrapper. Once it was gone, she began to bite into the chocolate, which was delicious as hell. Her eyes shut, enjoying the sweet bliss that her palate had brought about. She would normally give up a little more than halfway, but since it was all discounted, she decided to keep going. It would be a shame to put such a magnificent piece of chocolate aside. The third one, she decided, was fantastic as well. Lydia licked her lips in anticipation, eager to enjoy more of the confectioneries.
Shesmiled, chewing on another delicious treat. There were still quite a few chocolates left in the box, so she decided to take the rest of them home with her.
One benefit of being single? She wouldn’t have to share.
